Education

The research program at OSU started back in 2010 in what now seems like several lifetimes ago. It concluded in 2015, somewhat before it’s time.

Against the odds, Associate Professor of Theatre Kevin McClatchy has kept the work going at OSU reaching more than 430 autistic children through workshops and interactive performances of The Tempest and training more than 100 Ohio State students and theatre professionals and educators across the country in the Hunter Heartbeat Method.

“In any year, the immense heart, soul and brilliance of what Kelly has created would rightly be labeled ‘profound’, ‘transformative’, and ‘urgent’. Her work with the autistic community is global— and here, in the US, in 2025, in defiance of breathtaking callousness, it is more profound, transformative and urgent than ever. Kelly is a compassionate, disruptive, generous, authentic, empathetic artistic force of nature with a servant’s heart. She has — and continues to — change lives. None more than my own”

- Kevin McClatchy, Professor of Theatre @ OSU

In April 2025, I returned for one day, running a course with students from across the state of Ohio and passing on the games of Pericles. Kevin’s work has remained true and resonant to my work’s heart, I’m always happy to watch him lead it.
